Japanese Occupation Currency Set (#7647)
In order to keep the economies of the conquered countries from collapsing, the Imperial Government of Japan issued military invasion currency in the denominations of the conquered nation. Japanese Invasion Money (JIM) pesos were put into circulation in the Philippines after the fall of Manila. Thereafter, persons found with any other type of money were subject to severe punishment. During the occupation, a number of emergency and guerrilla currency notes were issued by the various provinces. Although technically banned by the Japanese government during the occupation, the Japanese did allow these guerrilla and emergency notes to circulate to some extent in order to maintain a semblance of a stable economy and to help prevent riots by the local populations. These invasion and emergency notes are a fascinating look into history. Notes in this lot include: First Issue 10 Peso with Plantation vignette, Second issue Southern Development Bank Notes with Rizal Monument vignette, and 1944 Treasury Emergency Certificate issued by the Negros Island Emergency Board. The paper on this certificate was derived from commercially manufactured brown paper bags! 5 notes in all! Notes range in condition from very fine to almost uncirculated. LIMITED QUANTITY AVAILABLE!!!
Japanese Occupation Currency Set $10.95
